(Audubon) It’s 11-13 Audubon against 1-20 West Harrison Friday night on KSOM in the first round of the Class 1A Regional Softball Tournament. Pregame coverage on 96.5 FM starts at around 6:50 with a 7:00 first pitch.
Audubon has an experienced team capable of making a splash in the postseason. Head coach Eric Borkowski says, “Hannah Thygesen at catcher has been very good. She’s been there for four years. Victoria Asmus has been my DP. Having those two seniors on the team is great to have. We have to continue to move on.”
The Wheelers have two quality pitchers they can turn to. Kali Irlmeier is 7-3 with a 1.84 ERA and has struck out 87 batters. Alexis Obermeier has 92 strikeouts along with a 3.06 ERA. “They are a huge asset for us. Both of them have different strengths. They throw different types of pitches and have different movement.” Borkowski says, “That helps us out a lot to use them in different situations and at different times in the game. That’s great to have as a small school to have two pitchers that are as talented as those two are.”
Victoria Asmus leads the Wheeler offense hitting .381 with 19 RBI while Jordan Porsch has a .316 average and has driven in 20 runs.
