(Red Oak) Atlantic took two games from Red Oak in Hawkeye Ten Conference play at Red Oak. The Trojans won the first game 12-0 and prevailed in the nightcap, 17-2.
This was a special night for Atlantic Head Coach Terry Hinzmann, who earned his 300th career win.
“The 300 wins is a big milestone for the entire program, not just me,” said Atlantic Head Coach Terry Hinzmann. “I didn’t pay much attention to it until I noticed my daughter in the stands. The 300th win reflects on the players I coached throughout the years and the long hard hours they put in to have a program of this nature.”
In game one, the Trojans shut out the Tigers 12-0. Malena Woodward went three-for-three at the plate with two doubles and five RBI. Zoey Kirchhoff pitched the win. The 8th grader allowed no runs on two hits, no walks, and struck out three hitters in the three-inning contest.
Atlantic followed up with a 17-2 victory in the nightcap. Riley Wood earned the win in the circle, allowing one earned run, three hits, walking one, and struck out four in the four-inning game. Ava Rush went 3-4, stole a base, scored three runs, and drove a runner home. Jada Jensen belted a single and a triple with 4 RBI, and Zoey Kirchhoff went three-for-four at the dish with a double.
“It was a great night for the pitchers, and both of them threw very well, “said Hinzmann. “We got the bat on the ball and drove some runs across the plate, and base running was exceptional tonight, and good for some of the younger players getting experience tonight.”
Atlantic ends the regular season on Friday night against Lewis Central at Iowa Western Community College.
