(Atlantic) The fifth annual “Top Shot” fundraiser hosted by Atlantic businessman Erich Wickman of Wickman Chemical is underway. Wickman says the event started as a Cass County Sheriff’s Department versus the Atlantic Police Department and grew from there.
Erich and his wife Tammy decided on 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Atlantic Police Reserves Kids’ programs.
Wickman says the fourth annual event raised over $8,000.00.
Atlantic Police Chief Devin Hogue says this is a huge fundraiser for the Kids’ programs. He says they have modified for COVID and made some changes due to being shorthanded. The Atlantic Police Reserves took the first and second graders to the zoo, and donations such as this helped pay for the bus ride, zoo tickets, snacks, and food. Additionally, Atlantic Bottling donated their suite at an Iowa Cubs game.
Sheriff Darby McLaren says it started as a friendly competition that turned into something going to a great cause.
Wickman says the shoot is Monday through Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with three target shots, now, July 19 and August 8. He says to qualify for the “Top Shot” championship, shooters have to shoot all three sets, and the average of three scores will determine the “Top Shot” in Cass County.
In 2021, about 400 shooters took part in the competition. Wickman says the goal is to get a national figure to join in on the shoot. Participants earn 50 shots for 20 dollars. The contest runs from now through August. For more information and to signup, call 712-243-7739.
