(Anita) CAM grabbed their first lead of the game in the bottom of the 6th inning and held on for a 3-2 softball win over Audubon on Tuesday.
Marissa Spieker led off the 6th with a single and stole second base. She would score the go-ahead run on a Mallory Behnken single.
CAM trailed 2-0 for much of the game until Behnken had a leadoff single in the 4th which sparked a two run frame. Kaitlyn Platt pinch ran for Behnken, advancing to 2nd on passed ball and to 3rd on a wild pitch. Kylie Nelsen walked and went to 2nd on wild pitch. Back to back groundouts by Karys Hunt and Mady McKee plated runs for CAM to tie the game at 2-2. In addition to Behnken’s two hit game, CAM had singles from Mady McKee, Jenna Platt, and Spieker.
Audubon’s only tallies of the game came in the 2nd inning. Jordan Mulford singled and Mattie Nielsen reached on an error. Mulford scored on an error while Nielsen was singled home by Jordan Porsch. Other Audubon hits included a Kali Irlmeier single and Michelle Brooks double.
Emma Follmann pitched the win for CAM. She entered the game with two outs in the first inning after the Cougars had walked the bases loaded. Follmann struck out four batters and didn’t walk anyone in her 6 1/3 innings pitched.
Kali Irlmeier took the loss for Audubon despite striking out ten batters in five plus innings. Irlmeier allowed five hits and walked two. Alexis Obermeier retired all three batters she faced in the 6th inning with one strikeout.
CAM improves to 14-9. They will host Stanton in the first round of regional play on Friday. 11-12 Audubon has lost six straight games that have been decided by one run. The Wheelers will close out the regular season against Griswold on Wednesday.
KSOM will air Audubon’s first round home game against West Harrison on Friday.
