Mary Elizabeth Beatty, the daughter of Louis and Lottie (Wedding) Helmuth, was born in Washington D.C., October 14, 1925. She passed away June 26, 2022, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, IA, at the age of 96 years.
Mary graduated from Maryland Park High School. After graduating, she worked for the Navy Department during World War II. She met Chester’s father and married, then moved to Iowa, before moving to Long Beach, CA, where he passed on. On September 13, 1991, she was united in marriage to Max Eugene Beatty, at Bullhead City, AZ. They lived in California and Colorado, before moving to Avoca, IA.
Mary retired from the General Telephone Yellow Pages in 1992, after 19 years of service.
Mary and Max loved to travel. They had taken five cruises and road trips. She was a volunteer at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan. Mary was a member of the United Church of Avoca, where she had served as a deacon.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Max Eugene Beatty; her parents; two sisters; and four brothers.
She is survived by her son Chester P. Wasko of Long Beach, CA; stepdaughter Barbara Mueller of Papillion, NE; three step grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Mary will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 11:00 AM, at the United Church of Avoca. Visitation with the family will take place one hour prior to the service. Lunch will be served immediately following the service. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Hancock at 1:00 PM. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting Mary’s family with arrangements.
