Lloyd “Butch” Keith Small, age 80, of Atlantic, IA passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at his residence in Atlantic, IA.
Butch was born on May 6, 1942 in Guthrie County, IA to William and Faye (Burger) Small. As a family, they moved to Audubon County in 1945. Butch attended country school in Viola through eighth grade and then later went to high school in Audubon. On September 4, 1959 he was united in marriage to Colleen Jessen in the Exira Lutheran Church. Butch worked at Talbot & Carlson Inc., Borden’s Milk, and Allied Van Lines. He then went to work at Atlantic Bottling for 31 years until he retired in 2012. After retirement, he worked as needed at A-Z Feeders. He was a 50-year-plus member of the local Elks Club and the Nishna Hills Golf Club. He enjoyed doing woodworking projects in his shop, playing many rounds of golf and watching his great-grandkids play sports and go to dance recitals.
Butch is preceded in death by his parents, William and Faye Small; two brothers Phil Small, and Floyd Small; one sister, Gloria Horning; four brothers-in-law, Mike Myers, Ken Jessen, Dean Horning, and Bill Shaw; three sisters-in-law, Alice Small, Ruth Jessen, and Joyce Jessen.
He is survived by his wife Colleen of Atlantic; son, Scott (Krista) Small of Atlantic and their children Lindsey (Brock) Taylor, and Travis Small; his daughter, Laveda Kay Eccles “Sissy” of Council Bluffs, IA, and her children Jennifer (Nick) Grove, Manda Eccles, Nick Eccles; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Shaw of Audubon, and Darlene Meyers of Perry; Sister in law, Shirley Small of Fremont, NE, brothers in law, Ron (Anita) Jessen of Mason City, IA, and Loren (Gala) Jessen of Novelty, MO; many nieces, nephews, and many friends.
A memorial service for Butch will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA, with Pastor Garry DeGeest officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will be held following the services on Thursday in the reception room at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home. A private burial will take place at St. John’s Cemetery west of Exira, IA at a later date.
