(Montgomery Co.) The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 34 and K Avenue at 9:30 this (Friday) morning.
The accident closed a portion of Highway 34 for about 45 minutes.
Upon investigation, it was determined that 59 year old Michael Hayes, of Madison, North Carolina, was traveling west on Highway 34 in a 2016 Freightliner semi with an enclosed trailer. 70-year-old Francis Dickson, of Omaha, Nebraska, was traveling north on K Avenue in a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. Dickson’s vehicle entered the roadway at the same time the semi was going through, causing the passenger side of the Equinox to strike the landing gear on the semi trailer.
Dickson and his son, 39-year-old Daniel Dickson of Omaha, were evaluated medically at the scene and then released with minor scrapes.
The Equinox was deemed a total loss as the front and side air bags deployed. The semi trailer sustained an estimated $5,000 damage.
Dickson was cited for Failure to Yield entering through Highway.
