(Atlantic) The bridge construction project on Highway 83 (2nd Street) on the west edge of Atlantic is scheduled for completion in roughly three weeks, according to Brian Smith, Resident Construction Engineer from the Iowa Department of Transportation Construction Office.
“The construction crew is making some progress despite a few setbacks,” said Smith. “The crew completed the deck pour; they’re currently doing guardrail and shoulder work. It’s possible the road will be open in three weeks, and maybe two if the weather is good, but it will be more likely three weeks.”
The detour remains on Glacier Road, Buck Creek, Echo, and Olive Street for vehicles over the three-ton weight limit. Vehicles under three tons may access the Street through Highland Addition and cross the bridge on 6th Street.
The other project is on Highway 6 over Indian Creek west of Lewis. Smith says the project is moving along. “The construction crew has some repair work underneath the bridge slowing them down a bit,” said Smith. “Crews completed the deck pour, and the overlay is complete. If everything goes as planned, Highway 6 should be open in four to five weeks.”
The detour is Highway 71, Highway 92, and Highway 48.
