(Greenfield) Live video will be available Thursday night for our softball broadcast featuring Nodaway Valley and Griswold.
Wolverine coach Abbey Queck is pleased with the way things are coming together for her team. “Definitely. We have a pretty small team and a lot of young girls, but they’ve stepped up and played pretty well. In the few games that we’ve played we had some tough losses, but the girls have learned from it and done a great job of bouncing back.”
Maddax DeVault is off to a blistering start at the plate. The senior is hitting .556. “Such a great leader by example and vocally. She does a great job at the plate. She’s a tough out. If she hits it into the ground she is probably going to beat it out. She has the speed on the bases. She’s just a great all-around athlete. A great person. She has really taken the younger group that we have right now and put them under her wing and led them in a great direction. She’s just an athlete that you wish you had a million of. She’s a great person, she’s a great athlete. It’s just amazing to see her step up as a senior and kind of take those younger ones. She puts a lot of work in in every sport that she does and she really focuses. It’s amazing to see her work. Everything she gets she definitely deserves, because she just puts in so much time in everything that she does.”
Jorja Holliday boasts a 2.77 ERA. Holliday has struck out 31 batters and walked 8. Opponents are hitting .205 against her. “Jorja and Lindsey Davis behind the plate and Lindsey calls the pitches. They work excellent together. Jorja has so much trust in Lindsey and Jorja is throwing pitches she was not comfortable with throwing last year. She plays year round softball and has grown tremendously as an athlete. Her mental game I think is where it’s grown the most. If she gives up a hit, she just goes after the next one and doesn’t want them to get a hit.”
Pregame coverage comes on the air at approximately 5:50. The contest is scheduled for a 6:00 start time on KSOM with live video at WesternIowaToday.com.
