(Atlantic) Atlantic Mayor Grace Garrett made a proclamation making June 13th through June 17th, Ride Transit Week in Atlantic.
Atlantic Mayor Grace Garrett says the City of Atlantic budgeted $8,000 to help fund the Southwest Iowa Transit Agency operating under the Southwest Iowa Planning Council. Garrett stated in 2021, SWITA traveled over 1.8 million miles providing 377,000 rides.
The proclamation stated that SWITA provides public transportation to citizens access to medical, business, employment, social, and supportive services, allowing individuals to remain independent, contributes to economic development, reduces traffic congestion, decreasing emissions, and improves rural mobility.
SWITA is southwest Iowa’s Public transportation system serving residents in Cass, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie, and Shelby Counties.
