(State) Golfers in the girls state tournament are halfway through their competition. 18 holes of golf were played on Thursday and 18 more will take place on Friday.
Class 1A golfers are competing at the American Legion Golf in Marshalltown. Ahead of the field is Lynville-Sully’s Greenlee Smock with a four over par 75. IKM-Manning’s Kylie Powers fired an opening round of 83. Powers is tied for 5th. Tied for 16th is Sidney’s Avery Dowling with a 91. Riverside’s Addison Brink shot 101 and is tied for 38th. In the team competition St. Albert is in 10th with a 422. The low round for the Saintes came from Lily Krohn with a 102.
The Class 2A leader is Olivia Hines, of Mediapolis, who shot an even par 72 at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls. In the team scoring Van Meter is 6th and Treynor is 7th. The Bulldogs (372) are 24-strokes behind leader New Hampton while Treynor (382) is 34 off the pace.
Winterset’s Jaya West is in 3rd place in Class 3A at River Valley Golf Course (Adel). Her first round of 78 is three strokes behind co-leaders Eden Lorhback (Gilbert) and Rylee Heryford (Newton). The 3A team leader is Gilbert. ADM is in 10th.
