(Audubon) The Audubon City Council tabled a pair of bonding opportunities during a special meeting on Monday.
Representatives from the fire department were on hand to present their request to bond for a new fire station. Mayor Barb Jacobsen says, “They have been talking with an engineer from JEO as well as USDA for some funding and so forth. It turns out the cost of the fire station would have the city exceed their debt limit for what is currently proposed. So the council basically tabled the request at this point trying to get more information to see what kind of cost cutting measures can be done.”
A $2.9 Million bond issue failed to pass in November 2021. The cost of the project, according to Mayor Jacobsen, is estimated between $3.4 to $4.2 Million.
The other bond issue that was tabled this week was for a community pool. “There wasn’t anybody there representing Park and Rec, but their proposal from JEO is over a million dollars. The council decided to table that and wanted to get more information on what is being required. There are some repairs we can do for about $300,000 which wouldn’t require bonding, so they are thinking maybe that’s the way we should go.”
The topics will be discussed again at the June meeting.
In another measure, a resolution was approved for the hiring of Brian Juelsgaard as Public Works Director.
