(Harlan) Offense is a a point of emphasis this season for Harlan Softball.
The Cyclones are 0-1 on the season after a 10-0 loss to Dallas Center-Grimes on Monday. Harlan’s contest at AHSTW on Wednesday is set to air on KSOM with a video stream available here: Western Iowa Today Live Video. Coach Toshia Kasperbauer lists several players she feels are capable of contributing at the plate. “Ellie Ineson and Ella Plagman have had some good bats. Jordan Heese has had some good bats. Abby Schechinger has had some nice bats.” Kasperbauer adds, “Kelsi Hoffman is senior this year that has never played high school ball. She’s played some club in Council Bluffs. She’s trying to learn ropes, but she has some power.”
Another key piece will be Tianna Kasperbauer, both in the batter’s box and in the pitcher’s circle. “Tianna does not have the speed that Emily Brouse had. She’s more about mixing up her pitches with her spin and changing speeds.”
Jenna Gessert could be an option in relief. The Cyclones face a stiff lineup of competition over the first week of the season. “AHSTW on Wednesday, then we have ADM at home on Thursday and we come back with the Winterset Tournament on Saturday. We start conference play on Tuesday with Creston. We are not going to have anytime to say boo here, but I guess it tests us and tells us where we are at. It tells us what work do we need to put in.”
Pregame coverage from Avoca will come your way at around 7:15 Wednesday evening.
