(Cass Co.) The Cass County Board of Supervisors this morning approved American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding requests for the Anita Child Care Center and Cass County Fire Association.
Gabby Wahlert, Board Member of the Anita Child Care Center, said their goal is to offer affordable childcare to everyone in Cass County for ages six weeks to 12-years. She said they are located in the Anita Elementary School and they are licensed for 65 kids.
Wahlert said they were requesting $60,000 in ARPA funding, but they would be very grateful for any amount they receive. Funding would go toward toys and books and items to update and revamp the rooms; craft supplies; basic supplies such as ink for the printers, paper towels, toilet paper; tuition for courses; a time clock; three laptop computers; a camera system; and their big project is the playground renovation.
After some discussion, the Supervisors approved providing the Anita Child Care Center with $50,000 in ARPA funding.
The Supervisors then heard from Cass County Emergency Management Director Mike Kennon on behalf of the Cass County Fire Association requesting $15,000 per fire department, totaling $120,000 in ARPA funding, for three handheld radios for each of the eight departments. Kennon explained that the Fire Association received a large grant that got mobile radios into each of the apparatuses in the fire departments, however…
The Supervisors approved the funding.
In other news, the Supervisors approved the re-appointment of Roger Barbero for a three year term on the Veteran’s Affairs Commission and officially approved the resolution for $65,000 in ARPA funding for the Anita Fire Association.
