(Mills Co.) Three people were arrested following a pursuit in Mills County early this morning.
The Mills County Sheriff’s Office says Hassan Mohamed was charged with Felony Eluding, Interference with Official Acts, Reckless Driving, Theft 5th and multiple driving citations. Zouberou Issifou and Nauk Pal were both charged with Interference with Official Acts.
At 4:35 a.m., a Mills County Deputy attempted to stop a gray Nissan Maxima for going 103 mph in a 55 mph zone east of Highway 34 from 195th. A pursuit was initiated and during the pursuit the vehicle entered the city limits of Glenwood, driving recklessly, at which time a Glenwood Police Officer joined in the pursuit. The vehicle eventually wrecked into a residence at 505 N. Grove and three subject ran from the vehicle, while two subjects stayed inside the vehicle. Both subjects that stayed at the vehicle were detained and later released without charges. Law enforcement checked on the residents of the house and all were ok and needed no medical assistance.
A Glenwood Police Officer pursued one of the subjects that ran from the vehicle and used a taser to successfully take the subject into custody without injury.
The Mills County Communication Center then called out the Mills County K9 Unit, Glenwood Police K9 Unit, Fremont County K9 Unit and the Mills County Drone Team. A perimeter was set up by responding units. The Mills County drone was deployed as well as multiple K9 teams.
A call was made to utilize the social media Facebook “Mills Scanner” page to put out the description of the two subjects that were still on the run. Not long after that was posted, law enforcement took a call about a young African American male riding a bicycle at 195th and Highway 34 westbound, matching the clothing description of one of the subjects that took off running. Law enforcement proceeded to that location and contacted the subject. The subject denied being involved, but was soaking wet with water and mud. While talking with this subject, a Mills County Sergeant looked down and noticed a new Nissan key located on the ground where contact was made. It was determined throughout the investigation that this subject was the registered owner of the vehicle that had crashed and that key belonged to the vehicle.
Due to it still being early in the morning, the Sheriff’s Office used the Facebook “Mills Scanner” page and posted a picture of the bicycle knowing it was stolen from somewhere in Glenwood. It wasn’t long and the owners contacted Glenwood Police reporting that they had a bicycle stolen from their yard.
The Mills County Communication Center also began receiving multiple 911 calls about a young African American male matching the clothing description running in the 160 block of Glenbrook. After a perimeter was set up, the subject was located in the Maplewood Dr. addition by another citizen. A short foot pursuit was initiated and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
The case is being investigated by the Mills County Sheriff’s Office and the Glenwood Police Department. The accident is being investigated by the Iowa State Patrol.
The Mills County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Mills County K9 Unit, Glenwood Police Department, Glenwood K9 Unit, Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, Fremont County K9 Unit, Mills County Drone Team, Mills County Communication Center, and the Iowa State Patrol.
