(Atlantic) On Wednesday evening, the Atlantic School Board approved substitute employee pay rates, student fees, sharing agreements, sponsors, and other items.
Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber recommended no change to the student fees, and the school board approved his recommendation. Barber says lunch and breakfast are not included while the district continues to wait for guidance on the cost of the meals from the federal government. Barber says students whose families meet the income guidances for free and reduced-price lunch should contact the Superintendent’s Office for a waiver form.

The School Board approved the following sharing agreements for the 2022-2023 school year:
Girls Swimming: Audubon and Clarinda (Atlantic Host School)
Boys Swimming: Audubon, Clarinda, Red Oak, and Riverside (Atlantic Host School).
Girls Soccer: CAM, Exira-EHK (Atlantic Host School)
Girls Wrestling: CAM, Nodaway Valley, Griswold, and Southwest Valley (CAM Host School).
The substitute employees are getting a raise. The school board approved a .50 per hour increase for some classes and a five-dollar raise for substitute teachers. Schools Superintendent Steve Barber says the wage increase attracts employees and honors regular employees. The total cost to the district is $2,000-$5,000.

Additionally, the board approved the 7th grade out-of-state trip to The Amazing Pizza Machine in Omaha for good behavior. The board also approved the K-12 new math curriculum and approved the quotes for both Bridges and Envision for $160,000. The company will provide two training days on May 31 and June 1.
The school board approved the quote to replace the high school bleacher motor repair for $18,500. The money will come from PPEL/SAVE. In addition to that, the board agreed to use ESSER funds for Phase 2 of the HVAC Air Quality Project for the base equipment to improve the air quality in the High School building and auditorium. The cost is $676,473.00.
The board also approved a pay application #4 – Middle School/Schuler Elementary Air Quality Project (Phase 1) and gave change order #5 of the athletic facilities improvement project.
