(Audubon) A group of peaceful protesters parked themselves on the front lawn of Audubon High School on Monday.
Sheridan Meese told KSOM/KS95.7 News, “We are protesting today because we are sick of all the racism and all of the homophobia that’s been going on and nothing is being done about it. Our principal won’t do anything about it. We have tried so many times to try and give him ways to improve or how he could take action and he just hasn’t.” Meese says, “We’ve had enough at this point and something needs to get done.”
Meese spoke on behalf of a dozen students. She explained the goal was to raise more awareness.
The protest is against bullying and harassment across a much wider scale, with one person noting that even students with disabilities have been bullied.
Superintendent Eric Trager says the district investigates and takes all accusations and incidents seriously and the school’s goal is to have all students feel safe when they enter the building.
