(Council Bluffs) Two people were arrested Tuesday morning after officers were dispatched to the Super Saver in Council Bluffs for a Criminal Mischief in progress. A male party was slashing tires on a vehicle in a handicap parking spot.
Upon officers’ arrival in the area, the suspect had fled in a silver Chevy Equinox north on No. Broadway. The vehicle was spotted by a Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Deputy who attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle fled from the Deputy and a pursuit ensued.
The suspect vehicle went back into the city limits of Council Bluffs and headed west on Kanesville. Stop sticks were deployed by Council Bluffs officers, successfully deflating the tires on the vehicle. The Equinox became disabled and came to a stop in the 1600 block of West Broadway where two suspects were taken into custody and transported to Pottawattamie County Corrections.
The driver, Suzanne Kay Labastida, 42, of Pacific Junction, was charged with Felony Eluding.
Evan Lee Christina, 26, of Council Bluffs, was charged with Criminal Mischief.
During the course of the pursuit, the suspect vehicle had lost control and struck the side of the Omni Parking Garage in the area of 2nd and West Broadway. Minor cosmetic damage was done to the facia of the structure. Labastida was also cited for the crash. There were no injuries.
Westbound traffic on West Broadway at 16th Street was rerouted for a short period until the roadway was cleared.
