(Audubon) The Audubon County Board of Supervisors over the last two weeks has been taking moves to get abandoned properties back on the tax roll. Properties with unpaid taxes over a period can be claimed by someone else willing to pay the taxes.
“If someone approaches and they want to pay the back taxes they can assume the property. That does still open the opportunity for the people who have not paid the taxes. A letter will go out to them. They can come forward and pay the taxes to claim their property, but if they fail to do that in a certain period of time then the other person will get the property.”
In other news, Supervisor’s Chairman Doug Sorensen says Becky Marten will be going back to full-time with the Auditor’s Office. “Becky Marten has been working at Audubon County longer than anyone can remember. She was at full-time at one time, but had drawn back to part-time. She’s beyond retirement age, but they have a lot of work in the Auditor’s and she’s there more than part-time most of the time so she decided to just go ahead and be full-time again so more power to her.”
Sorensen says the county has entered into a road use agreement with Mid-American Energy for the Eclipse Wind Farm. The generators and blades on 24 turbines located in the southern part of the county are eleven years old and need to be replaced. “The newer stuff is just better and more efficient. They are not worn out, but they have newer and better things and are making them bigger. So they will actually produce more electricity.”
Some intersections will have their turning radius widened to accommodate the process.
