(Washington D.C.) Iowa District #3 U.S. Representative Cindy Axne is urging action to protect Iowans from “Junk” Health Insurance Plans.
Representative Axne says the term for these plans is short-term limited-duration insurance plans. She says the plans are meant to be temporary since they’ve been put in place. For example; if someone loses their job and can’t afford COBRA, but need some coverage can look for one of these plans.
Axne says these junk plans were never intended to be long-term, comprehensive coverage, and often leave Americans on the hook for hundreds of thousands of dollars of medical debt.
Congresswoman Axne is urging the administration to reverse the rule to its original purpose-for these plans are to be used in the short-term while the individual marketplace provides comprehensive coverage for both healthy individuals and those with chronic diseases, that need to manage their care.
