Don Schwarte, husband of Carol (Troll) Schwarte, died peacefully on Thursday, April 21, 2022, surrounded by a loving family at the Good Samaritan Home in Villisca, IA.
Don was born August 3, 1947, in Panama, IA to Sylvan and Roseanne Schwarte. The eldest of eight children, Don grew up in Atlantic and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1966.
He was drafted into the United States Army in January 1968 and served in Italy. He was an Army engineer and technician that was responsible for the expert repair and maintenance of army vehicles.
He was united in marriage to Carol Troll on the icy day of December 28, 1968, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Walnut. In this union, they were blessed with three children, Jon, Jennifer, and Janece. He farmed all his life with his brothers on the Schwarte Bros. Farms east of Atlantic until he retired in 2020, but continued to enjoy hauling grain and putzing around the farm. Through the years he was an active Elks Lodge Member, he was a fourth-degree knight with the Knights of Columbus, the emphasize or the fourth degree is patriotism.
Don was a kind and loving partner to the love of his life Carol and they enjoyed camping with family and friends, playing cards, traveling together with friends from Wilson Seed, Iowa Corn Growers, and Moostash Joe, spending time with their children and grandchildren. Don also enjoyed, coconut cream pie, steak cooked medium rare, collecting junk, refurbishing vehicles; his pride and joy was his 1966 Mercury Cyclone and his Grandpa Schwarte’s 1937 H.
Preceding Don in death are his parents, Sylvan and Roseanne Schwarte; sister, Joan Anderson; and his father and mother-in-law, Alvin and Lois Troll.
