(Griswold) Griswold Schools Superintendent Dave Henrichs opened Monday’s School Board meeting with an update on open teaching positions.
The openings include; an elementary classroom teacher, family consumer science teacher, several coaching positions, sponsorships, and bus drivers.
In other action, the School Board moved to keep the registration fees the same for the 2022-2023 school year. Henrichs says before the 2020-2021 school year; the district charged families a technology fee. The board switched this over to a booking fee at the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
Griswold students missed just one day due to the weather regarding the current school calendar. Henrichs says the master calendar states that students will not have to make up during the first three snow days, but teachers do. For professional development, the teachers will make up the one lost snow day on May 23. Students will be dismissed for the summer on an early out on May 20.
In other business, the School Board approved the 2022 graduating class consisting of 36-students. Commencement is May 15, at 2:00 p.m.
The School Board also approved the purchase of Huddle Video cameras for the football field and gymnasium. The cost of the inside and outside cameras and the software that comes with them totals $8,000.00. Henrichs says the Athletic Association, for lack of a better term, requires schools to use “Huddle” for football, basketball, and volleyball as the means to exchange game tapes.
The School Board also discussed the state retention bonus. In January, Governor Reynolds announced that certified teaching staff meeting the state’s criteria would receive a $1,000 reward. Henrichs says the retention bonus neglected some valuable accredited staff members. Aside from this, the district decided to give all staff members a retention bonus.
The board could not officially vote on the issue; however, the measure will be on the next school board meeting agenda.
