(Atlantic) On Monday afternoon, the United States Department of Homeland Security recognized former Cass County Deputy Tyler Shiels and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office for the intervention of a security threat toward the President of the United States and other governmental officials.
Jim, from the Office of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, says Tyler Shiels’ routine traffic stop on December 21 on Interstate 80 prevented Kuachua Xiong, of California, from traveling to Washington D.C. to follow through with a plan to harm President Biden and other Government Officials. Authorities found an assault rifle, ammunition, a “hit list,” and other items to execute his plan during the vehicle search.
Shiels pulled the driver over for driving aggressively and the comments about Biden during the stop. Xiong was transported to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. Xiong told Authorities during the interview he left Sacramento, California, on December 18 to drive straight to the White House and kill people.
Cass County Sheriff Darby McLaren says Shiels training allowed him to identify a problem.
Shiels, now an Iowa State Patrol Trooper, says based on his training experience, he knew this wasn’t a routine traffic stop.
Xiong was charged with making threats to a President. The case is still in the court system.
