(Atlantic) Iowa State Patrol Trooper and Public Information Officer Shelby McCreedy appearing with KSOM Morning Show Host Frank Rizzo talked about driving safety and precautions if caught driving in severe weather.
Trooper McCreedy suggests downloading weather apps that will provide alerts for you where you are rather than where you live.
McCreedy says drivers should stay in the vehicle and fasten the seatbelt if encountering hail or a tornado. Please slow down, stop in a safe location, turn away from the windows, cover themselves with a coat or a blanket, and DO NOT park under a bridge or an overpass.
Trooper McCreedy says if stopping your vehicle, stop in a low-lying area. More information can be found on google, “severe weather driving safety.”
