(Elk Horn) The Exira-EHK School District is in the market for a new Secondary Principal.
On Monday night the school board accepted the resignation of Nate McDonald. “Mr. McDonald was very positive. As a new principal he came in and asked a lot of questions and did the right things and build great relationships. We are sorry to see him go.” Superintendent Trevor Miller says McDonald accepted a similar role at Missouri Valley, “It makes sense for him and his family.”
The board approved the FY 2023 School Budget. The tax levy rate drops roughly twenty cents to $11.68. “We are pre-paying part of our General Obligation Bond. Our balance is $3.3 million for the bond we passed back in 2017. We are going to pay an additional $150,000 this year. That will save $103,000 in interest.” Miller says, “We want to make sure we are fiscally responsible and help our tax payers. Paying off bonds ahead of time is a bonus for them.”
Elsewhere, a list of 26 graduates has been okayed. “Everyone is on line right now to graduate. They still have to meet all the requirements and stay out of trouble the next month. We have a good group graduating and graduation is on May 15th.”
In other activity, the board renewed sharing agreements with Green Hills AEA for a Librarian and School Based Interventionist. A bid $14,500 bid from Audubon Furniture Mart was approved for new flooring in the Elk Horn cafeteria. The project will begin as soon as school is out for summer break.
