(Atlantic) The Atlantic girls’ soccer team heads into this week’s competition with a lot of momentum. The (3-0) Trojans defeated Perry 5-0, Kuemper 2-0, and Missouri Valley 7-0.
Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason says the team is jelling, playing hard, and taking care of business.
Goalie Edria Brummer is playing a pivotal role defensively. The junior has a combined 14 saves through the first three outings. At the same time, Coach Vargason is impressed with his junior keeper; he notes other reasons for holding teams scoreless.
Offensive juggernaut Jada Jensen is picking up where she left off last season. The program’s all-time leading scorer has netted eight goals during the first three games.
While everything goes through Jensen on the offensive end, Vargason is most impressed with Aubrey Guyer and transitions from offense to defense.
The Trojans have 77 shots on goal so far in this young season which is a lot more than in seasons past. Coach Vargason said last year that the players were tentative to shoot the ball and didn’t know whose role it was until Jada Jensen started scoring. This year teams are keying on Jensen, and teammates like Aubrey Guyer, Maddie Dvorak, and Lindley Eblen are stepping up and taking the pressure off of Jensen. Jensen ended the season with 27 goals.
Next up for the Trojans is two homes games with Des Moines, North on Tuesday and Glenwood on Thursday.
