(Pomeroy) A man faces first-degree murder charges in Calhoun County.
The Calhoun County Dispatch Center received a report at around 4:25 p.m. on Saturday of a shooting at 210- S. Ontario Street in Pomeroy.
Calhoun County Deputies, Pomeroy Police, and Calhoun County EMS responded. Arriving first-responders found the victim, later identified as 59-year old Anthony Hinners suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite life-saving measures, Hinners died at the scene.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation answered a request to assist. As a result of the joint investigation between the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and the DCI, and in consultation with the Calhoun County Attorney’s Office, authorities arrested 66-year old Michael Hinners, charged him with first-degree murder, and booked him into the Carroll County Jail.
Anthony Hinners’s body was transported to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
