(Oakland) The Riverside girls track team was scheduled to compete at AHSTW’s co-ed meet on Thursday, but the meet was called off. The Lady Dawgs now turn their attention to Treynor’s meet on Monday.
Riverside will be looking to keep their momentum going from a team title on their home track on Tuesday.
Coach Jared Hoffman’s team won six events in front of their home crowd and broke three meet records. “It was one of our first regular season meets that we had won in a long time and it was good to have that win at home. We had a lot of event winners. Veronica Andrusyshyn had an amazing night. She broke two meet records in the 100 and 100 Meter Hurdles. She was pretty lights out in those. Some other individual champs we had Lydia Erickson win the 200 and 400. Then the 4X400 we threw together a good team for that and and they pulled out the win. Then our 4X100 broke the meet record also. Overall a really good night.”
Andrusyshyn’s record time in the 100 was 13.10, which is 3rd best in Class 1A. Her 100 Meter Hurdle meet record of 16.70 is the 5th fastest time in the state. Joining her on the record setting 4X100 with a time of 52.57 were Mack Olmstead-Mitchell, Ayla Richardson, and Elle Murray.
Riverside ranks in the top five in the state in three relays. The Lady Dawgs have worked hard to get to this point. “I really like the way that they come to practice and work hard every single day.” Hoffman says, “I like to make the practices high intensity, but shorter workouts. If they are able to give us their focus and effort for that amount of time it goes pretty well. We’ve seen some success with it.”
