(Atlantic) The Atlantic boys golf team makes their season debut on Tuesday at Kuemper Catholic.
Trojan Head Coach Ed DenBeste expects good competition from the Knights. “It’s always tough. Us and Kuemper are usually some of the top two teams in the Hawkeye Ten so it’s a good match for us to figure out if we are on the right track or do we have some things that we need to work on.”
Atlantic has 12 golfers on the roster this season. They return four members of their Hawkeye Ten Conference Tournament championship group. “We’ve got two seniors back with Garrett McLaren and Lane Nelson. We look at those two to probably lead our team this year. We have Roth DenBeste and Cruz Weaver that also have some good experience and then the next two spots we’ll see. We have some guys that are playing really well, we have some guys that are really working on some stuff, so we’ll see.”
Others that could contend for varsity spots at some point this year include Cooper Jipsen, Tate Niklasen, Colton Becker, Tristan Hayes, Traven Hansen, Caden Smith, and Chris Keegan. In addition to Tuesday’s competition at Kuemper Catholic, the Trojans will travel to Creston on Thursday.
