(Cass Co.) The Cass County Board of Supervisors this morning approved a Cooperative Agreement for the Bridge Removal Mitigation Program with the Iowa Department of Transportation; the I-80 overpass at 570th Street.
In December, the Supervisors approved vacating a portion of 570th street contained within the State of Iowa right-of-way for Interstate-80 so the DOT can fill in the underpass and get rid of the bridge. The County will receive money from the DOT for the closure of the bridge to use for other bridge projects in the County.
Cass County Engineer Trent Wolken explains what today’s agreement is for.
Supervisor Steve Green asked if there is any indication the DOT can ensure there is an area for the County to move snow once the roadway is closed.
Wolken said the DOT has a preliminary letting date of January 2024 to fill that in.
Wolken also noted that they recently had a bid letting to repair Bridge #289 on West 6th Street in Atlantic. He said they had five bids and three were very competitive. Those bids will be brought to the Supervisors at their next meeting. Wolken said he needs to speak with the contractor to figure out when they will start the project.
In other news, the Supervisors approved an ordinance relating to the new Election Precincts.
