(Atlantic) The Atlantic Middle School Library was presented with a $10,000 check this afternoon from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation Beyond Words program.
Howie Erickson, District Manager, said the Beyond Words grant was designed to help school libraries rebuild after natural disasters.
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation was established in 1993 by co-founder of Dollar General, J.L. Turner, who only had a third-grade education.
Deb Burton, Atlantic’s 8th Grade Literacy Teacher, said she has not been in the Middle School yet to analyze the library collection following the fire to see what needs replaced.

Howie Erickson, Regional Director Paul Vilinski, Atlantic Dollar General Store Manager Robyn Sullivan and other officials toured the Atlantic High school to see the current dual library and classroom set up, the Atlantic Middle School to see the repairs to the Middle School Library, and the Achievement Center to see the 6th and 7th grade warehouse situation.
