(Atlantic) Nearly one year ago, local author Janine Pheiffer Knop of Atlantic and her sister Jackie Pheiffer McGregor from Washington State authored a book titled “While the Windmill Watched.” The text in its second printing recently received National Recognition through the Independent Press Award.
Janine Knop says the competition is judged from different aspects of the book industry, including publishers, writers, editors, book cover designers, and professional copywriters. Selected IPA Award Winners and Distinguished Favorites are based on overall excellence. Knop says they applied for this award, and a specified number of books were sent to this company.
“While the Windmill Watched” is a Slice of Rural America in the 1950s written by Jackie and Janine. The windmill takes on the unique role of narrator as the book chronicles the decade of the 1950s through the lives of the sisters as they grew up on a farm near Menoken, North Dakota.
Knop says the book led to many other opportunities, including; a YouTube channel.
The sisters decided to build a platform for others to talk about their experiences and memories of the 1950s. Thus, the berth of the youtube podcast titled the 1950sfunchat hosted by Janine and Jackie. This is a weekly show with a featured guest. Knop says they’re always looking for guests on the fun chat, through friends, Facebook, or suggestions from others. Google youtube and the 1950sfunchat, or the website “While the Wind Watched. Janine Knop says more ventures from the book are coming out this summer.
