(Harlan) Harlan got their feet wet during an indoor track meet on Tuesday and will dive into the outdoor season next week.
Cyclone boys track coach Sam Brummer says the team has a good blend of youth and experience. The throwers will be led by returning state discus qualifier Jameson Bieker. “He’s doing a heck of a job so far this year.” Brummer says, “Gunner Schmitz is another guy that has grown into his own as the years have gone on.”
Tyler Shelton headlines the distance group. “Tyler Shelton moved in from North Carolina. He’s doing a fantastic job. He’s wise beyond his years in many fronts.” Brummer says, “Jozef Reisz is another one that has come along.”
Aidan Hall has three state medals to his credit and he returns as the leader of the sprinters. “He won the conference in the 100 and 200. Looking for big things from him when he can get on the track. He’s not the healthiest right now so we are easing him along, but hopping to get him back sooner rather than later. Will Neuharth has really stepped up on the track for us. He had a phenomenal day up in South Dakota in the 60M Dash. Lukas Francis had a really good freshman debut. We were excited to see him run the way he did. Jacob Birch is going to be a guy that gets moved around here and there. Connor Frame is a name that a lot of people know from football and basketball and he’s coming out for track this year.” Coach Brummer adds Bret VanBaale performed well in the hurdles at South Dakota last week.
The Cyclones will be in action at Denison competing against schools from the Hawkeye Ten North Division.
