Myra Lou Hansen, the daughter of John and Florence (Moore) Christian, was born on a farm near Villisca, IA. Myra died Thursday, March 24, 2022, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, IA, at the age of 87 years, 1 month, and 2 days.
Myra’s family moved to a farm outside of Griswold, where she attended country school before graduating from Griswold High School with the class of 1952. After graduating, Myra attended beauty school in Council Bluffs before taking a job at Edna’s Beauty Shop. On August 8, 1954, she was united in marriage to Norman Hansen at the Griswold United Methodist Church. After Norman and his brother Harold purchased the family grain elevator in 1969, Myra began working full time at the elevator. Myra worked there until her retirement in 1993. Myra and Norman continued to live in Griswold and were very active in the community. Norman died November 4, 2006. Myra continued to live in Griswold until 2019, then moved to Brookridge apartments in Atlantic.
Myra was a member of the Griswold United Methodist Church where she participated in the bell choir and chancel choir, taught Sunday School for several decades, and had been funeral lunch coordinator for many years. She was an avid Griswold School supporter. Myra started the Griswold Golden Tigers. After moving to Atlantic, she started Atlantic Joy (Just Older Youth).
Myra is preceded in death by her husband Norman; her parents; and her sister, Lola Perdue.
Myra is survived by her children: Scott Hansen and wife Peggy of Griswold, IA, Steve Hansen and wife Janet of Charles City, IA, and Ann Hansen and husband Dave Miller of Papillion, NE; and her grandchildren: Britney Beatty and husband Cameron, Brooke Hansen and fiancé Peyton Renning, Siri Boateng and husband Joy, John Hansen, Joshua Hansen, and Joseph Hansen. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 28, 2022, at 11:00 AM, at the Griswold United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, March 27, 2022, from 4-6 PM, at the Church. Interment will be in the Flint Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be given to Griswold Dollars for Scholars. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family with arrangements.
