Lucinda “Cindy” Gail Koll, age 65, of Atlantic, IA, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at The Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, NE, from complications of a brain bleed.
Cindy was born on September 30th, 1956, to Vernon Owen and Shari (Summy) Owen in North Carolina. She spent most of her growing years in South Dakota, graduating from Rapid City Stevens High School in 1974. Cindy went on to receive a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of South Dakota in Speech Therapy. She moved to Atlantic in 1980, taking a job as a Speech-Language Pathologist with Loess Hills AEA 13. After 36 years with the AEA, she retired and purchased a quilt shop where she was still at today.
Cindy was active in the community with Crime Stoppers and Jaycees in her early years, and with BPW and the Atlantic women’s social club still today. She was also active in her church teaching Sunday School for many years. Cindy was also a very proud breast cancer survivor of 15 years.
Cindy is survived by her husband, Steve, of 36 years and two children, son, Kellen (Melanie) of Omaha, Nebraska, and daughter, Katie, of Atlantic. Cindy has two sisters, Kristi (Chad) Mount of Glenwood, Iowa, and Deedee (Jeff) Hicks of Rapid City, South Dakota. She also has two step-grandchildren and one granddaughter.
Cindy was preceded in death by her father, mother, three stepparents, and stepbrother, Lee, of Rapid City, South Dakota.
Visitation with the family present will be held on Monday, March 28, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at the United Church of Christ in Atlantic, Iowa.
