(Des Moines) Drake’s season is over in men’s basketball. The Bulldogs were the top seed in the College Basketball Invitational, but lost their 2nd round game against UNC Wilmington 76-75.
Shanquan Hemphill led the team with 15 points and 7 rebounds on Monday. Tremell Murphy and Tucker DeVries each scored 14 points. Garrett Sturtz added 11 points and Roman Penn had 10. Drake led 41-24 at halftime. The Bulldogs stretched the advantage to 20 points early in the 2nd half and maintained a 60-39 edge with just 12:19 to play before things slipped away.
UNC Wilmington scored 31 of their 76 points in the final 10:00. They used a 13-0 run to close within six points and finished the last 4:00 on a 13-6 advantage. The Seahawks turned the ball over only six times and improved to 25-9.
Drake’s final record is 25-11.
