(Fort Worth, TX) Despite trailing for most of the night, #9 seed Creighton downed #8 seed San Diego State 72-69 on Thursday in the NCAA Tournament. The overtime victory gives the Bluejays a shot at the winner between Kansas and Texas Southern.
Ryan Hawkins finished with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals. Trey Alexander had some clutch buckets late and produced a team high 18 points. Ryan Kalkbrenner came through with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Alex O’Connell scored 15 points and Arthur Kaluma notched 12. Creighton trailed 62-53 with 2:29 to play, but scored the final nine points of regulation to force overtime. In OT they fell behind 69-66 with 2:05 remaining before scoring the final six points to secure the win.
23-11 Creighton’s next game will be on Saturday in Forth Worth.
