(Atlantic) The Cass County Board of Supervisors approved the Elected Officials Compensation at their meeting this morning.
The Compensation Board had recommended a six percent increase for the Auditor, Treasurer, Recorder, Attorney and Supervisors and 26-percent increase for the Sheriff. The Supervisors approved a three-percent increase for Auditor, Treasurer, Recorder, Attorney and Supervisors and a 13-percent increase for the County Sheriff.
That means the approved salary for Attorney for the upcoming fiscal year is $124,081 compared to this year’s salary of $120,467; for Auditor, Recorder and Treasurer the approved salaries for the upcoming year are $65,433 compared to this year’s salary of $63,527; for the Sheriff the approved salary is $94,167 compared to this year’s salary of 83,334; and the Supervisors’ approved salary is $32,759 compared to this current fiscal year of $31,805, the chair will receive an additional $1,000.

The Supervisors also approved the FY2023 Budget following a public hearing in which there were no comments. The budget shows a tax levy of 4.80945 per $1,000 taxable valuation for Urban and 8.49276 per $1,000 taxable valuation for Rural. A copy of the budget can be found on the Cass County website.
The Supervisors then approved the FY2023 Secondary Roads Employees Bargaining Unit Agreement. Supervisor Mark O’Brien said the raises were just a tick over three-percent, but this was not an across-the-board raise.
In other news, the Supervisors approved a resolution of American Rescue Plan Act funds in the amount of $108,624 to purchase Election Equipment. Sheri Karnes said their voting equipment now is way older than it should be.
The Board also spent a lengthy amount of time discussing the status of the daycare facilities in Griswold, Massena and at the Nishna Valley Family YMCA and how they may use the ARPA funding for them. No action was taken at this time.
