(Atlantic) A bridge overlay project on Highway 83 or (2nd Street) on the west edge of Atlantic will close the road for approximately six-to-eight weeks, starting March 28, according to Brian Smith, Resident Construction Engineer from the Iowa Department of Transportation Creston Office.
Smith tells KSOM/KS95 News construction crews will mill the top two inches off the bridge deck, conduct a few minor repairs, and replace it with a new surface extending the life of the bridge deck.
Smith says the detour is Glacier Road, Buck Creek, Echo, and Olive Street for vehicles over three tons. Passenger vehicles may access the Street through Highland Addition and cross the bridge on 6th Street.
A similar project will start next week at the Highway 6 bridge over Indian Creek west of Lewis. The road will close on March 14 through June 16. The detour is Highway 71, to Highway 92, Highway 48.
