(CAM) Due to declining student enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year, the CAM School Board made some financial decisions to make up for the lost revenue.
This past fall, 27 fewer students attended classes in the district which means less revenue in the general fund. Schools Superintendent Paul Croghan says at Monday night’s school board meeting; the board agreed to reduce teaching staff by attrition, saving the district about $210,000. Croghan says the community will not replace a kindergarten teaching position, a middle school teacher, or a principal’s position. The budget reduction also included adding a TAG instructor and a Girl’s Wrestling Coach.
Additionally, the board is faced with another decision on which elementary building will house the projected single section of kindergarten students entering the district this fall. Currently, there are two sections. One unit is at the north elementary building in Anita, and the other section is at the south elementary in Massena.
Croghan says based on the preschool numbers, only one section or 15 Kindergarten students are projected to enter the district next school. The decision on where to house the single section will be an action item on the agenda at the March 14 school board meeting.
