(Atlantic) At Wednesday’s special meeting, the Atlantic School Board approved a pay request, a pay application, extra options on the new bus, and approved the final seven units of the HVAC project at the high school.
The Atlantic School Board approved a pay request to First Onsite Property Restoration and the sub-contractors for work completed on the fire-damaged middle school. The district owes the company a little over one million dollars but has yet to receive a check from EMC’s insurance company. Schools Superintendent Steve Barber says the bill will be paid when the insurance check comes in. “We’ve been in conversation and patient with EMC, but there are a lot of sub-contractors looking for some money,” said Barber. “I think we will have this resolved by next week. The board approving the payment request will allow us to pay First Onsite as soon as the insurance company sends the check.”
The board approved $13,089.45 to Camblin Mechanical for the HVAC/Air quality project at the Middle and Schuler Elementary buildings. This is the first pay application for the work completed to date for the $139,500 project.
The school board also approved two additions to the 77-passenger school bus approved last month. The additions include; luggage storage, ($3,600), and air-conditioning for ($9,800.00). The additions bring the total to $135,719.00. “We feel these additions are needed because this 77-passenger bus has a propane tank capacity to make all of our trips,” stated Barber.
The school board wrapped up the meeting approving Camblin Mechanical’s bid of $132,135 for the final phase of the high school HVAC replacement project. The project involves replacing seven units at the high school, which completes the project that started several years ago.
The school board also approved March 16 for the public hearing on the 2022-2023 school calendar. The proposed schedule includes a school starting date of August 23, 1100 hours of classroom time, resulting in the last day of school on May 25. The board will also conduct a public hearing on the south parking lot project at the high school on March 16. The bids for the project are due by March 8.
