Burton “Burt” Conn, age of 78 of Atlantic, Iowa, died at his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, February 13, 2022, in Atlantic. He was born the son of George H. and Maxine (Taylor) Conn in Atlantic, Iowa on December 4, 1943. He graduated from the Griswold High School in Griswold, Iowa. On August 25, 1968, Burt was united in marriage to Karen Priest in Lewis, Iowa.
Burt worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 35 years as an Engineer Assistant and later worked as a greeter and floor associate at Walmart in Atlantic for several years. He was also a volunteer at Cass County Memorial Hospital, Cass County Agency on Aging, and at the Atlantic Nursing Home until he became ill. Burt was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner for most of his adult life as well as being a member of the United Church of Christ and fellowship at First Church of Christ.
Burton is preceded in death by his parents George and Maxine; his in-laws, Carl and Fern Priest; one brother, Jim Conn; a brother-in-law, Carl Lee Priest; two sister-in-laws, Janice (Jim) Conn, and Ann (Barry) Conn; and one son-in-law, Russ (Barb) Salmans.
Burton leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Karen (Priest); three daughters- Barb (Jeremy) Burkum of Atlantic, Joani Veenstra of Blue Island, IL, and Judy (Brian) Folkers of Plainfield, IL. Seven grandchildren; Jessica Veenstra (Daniel Walsh), Jacob (Kaelee) Salmans, Matthew Veenstra, Haylee Folkers, Jackson Folkers, Hannah Veenstra, and Jonathan Folkers; two great grandchildren Hayden and Brian Walsh. His brother, Barry (Deb) of Trilla, IL; three sister-in-laws – Sheri (Jim) Conn of Lewis, Sherry Minnsen of Vilisca, and Ruth (Carl Lee) Priest of Bethany, MO. Burton leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and a multitude of special family friends.
Funeral service will be held at 10 am, Saturday, February 19, 2022, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa with Revs Colt Doherty and Heather Brown officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakwood Cemetery in Lewis, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022, from 1 pm until 7 pm at the funeral home with the family present from 5 till 7 pm.
