(Des Moines, IA) — Legislation mandating classroom cameras in Iowa schools won’t advance this session. The bill introduced by Republican State Representative Norlin Mommsen would have required a live feed from every classroom except special education and physical education classes. WHO reports educational professionals pointed out safety and privacy concerns as they spoke against the idea. Mommsen’s bill was scheduled to come up in a Wednesday subcommittee hearing, but the hearing was canceled and isn’t going to be rescheduled.
