Verla Kay Heath, age 73, of Atlantic, IA, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022, in the comfort of her home.
Verla Kay (Schroeter) Heath was born October 21, 1948, in Audubon County to Harold and Anna (Overgaard) Schroeter. She graduated from Exira High School in 1966 and then married Benjamin Douglas Heath on June 4th of this same year. From their union, three children were born: Noele Tyson (Carroll, IA), Jeremy Heath (Atlantic, IA), and Dawn Hepler (Atlantic, IA), six grandkids: Kelsea Tyson, Taylor (Noe) Sanchez, Tatum Heath, Benjamin Heath, Hillary (Ethan) Zellmer, and Heath Hepler, and 8 great-grandkids: Lux-Anna, Demri Jean, Jace, Ove, Zach, Oscar, Oliver, and Zola.
Verla is also survived by her siblings; Carol Gronseth, Doug (Sherri) Schroeter, Neil (Lavonne) Schroeter, Debbie Weitzel, Judy (Bob) Gross, Allen (Michelle) Heath; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents Harold and Anna Schroeter, Elmer and Janis Heath, brother in law Kurt Weitzel, and brother in law Steve Gronseth.
Verla spent her life caring for others at the Atlantic Care Center and then at the Southwest Iowa Mental Health Center until her retirement. Verla was known for her love of fishing, camping, reading, and spending quality time with her family, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She will be missed by all.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, February 12, 2022, with Pastor Ben Winford officiating, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA. A luncheon will be provided following the service on Saturday and will be hosted in the community room of the Schmidt Family Funeral Home.
Open visitation with family present will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA.
Interment will take place at Southlawn Memory Gardens.
