(Avoca) Delaney Goshorn scored 20 points to lead AHSTW past Logan-Magnolia Friday night in Avoca. The Lady Vikes scored the game’s first five points, led by as many as eight points on three different occasions, and hung on for a 45-39 victory.
Goshorn scored 12 of her team’s 16 second half points to help preserve the win. They reversed the outcome from the first meeting between these teams. When they met in December at Logan-Magnolia the Panthers won 45-21. The Lady Vikes matched that offensive output just from the three point line in the first half with their seven triples in the first two quarters. In addition to 20 from Goshorn, Ellie Peterson scored 12 and Ella Langer had 8. Peterson also blocked four shots.
AHSTW scored 10 of the game’s first 12 points. Logan-Magnolia closed the gap with a 5-0 stretch early in the 2nd quarter to get within one at 17-16. Greylan Hornbeck gave the visitors their first lead with 3:50 left in the first half when her 3-pointer made it 21-20. AHSTW responded with a 9-0 stretch that featured 3-pointers from Ell Langer, Ellie Peterson, and Rylie Knop.
Logan-Magnolia trailed by five at half, but outscored AHSTW 12-4 in the 3rd quarter to go back in front. Another Hornbeck 3-pointer gave the Panthers a 35-33 advantage with 1:10 remaining in the 3rd. AHSTW started the 4th on a 9-0 stretch and never trailed again. A Goshorn basket early in the final stanza made it a 37-36 edge for the Lady Vikes and Logan-Magnolia couldn’t close any closer than within three down the stretch.
Mya Moss scored 10 of her 12 points in the first half. Ava Goldsmith scored 7 while Brooklyn Lally, Marki Bertelsen, and Greylan Hornbeck all scored 6. Lally did all of her scoring in the 3rd quarter as she got a rare start in the absence of Macanna Guritz (averaging 12.1 points, 7.6 rebounds).
AHSTW improves to 7-12 on the year and 6-8 in the Western Iowa Conference. Logan-Magnolia goes to 12-5 overall and 8-5 in the WIC.
