(Audubon) Tyler Thygesen will fill a vacancy as an Emergency Management Director in Audubon County.
Thygesen’s hire was approved this week by the Audubon County Board of Supervisor’s. Here’s chairman Doug Sorensen. “He’s been on the fire department, he’s been at the hospital, he’s been around everybody. He’s a familiar face in the community and he’s been in that field. He’s excited about it and I think it’s a great hire. I think he’ll do a great job.”
Thygesen’s hire is as a full-time employee. “The EMA Board came to us a couple of months ago after Phil Mennenoh resigned and wanted to take the position to full-time. It had been part-time, but the problem with part-time is you tend to get people that are retired or working another job and not devoting full energy to this position.”
Among the key priorities to begin with for Thygesen will be securing an ambulance service. Sorensen explains with Midwest Medical’s shift to Cass County, Audubon County has been left with a void. “We are now in need of finding some kind of arrangement so we can have better ambulance service.” Sorensen says, “We’ve had people have to wait 5-6 hours for an ambulance and it’s just come to a critical head where we need to figure out something. I just encourage all parties to work together.”
Mike Jensen had filled in as EMA/E911 Director on an interim basis following Phil Mennenoh’s resignation. Sorensen says Jensen came out of retirement to help out and did a good job.
