(Griswold) Griswold built a 20-point halftime lead and kept the foot on the throttle in the 3rd quarter to defeat Essex 73-34 Friday night in boys basketball.
Adam Houser led the Tigers with 19 points, Kamron Brownlee pitched in 16, Peyton Cook 14, and Caleb Oakleaf posted 11 in the win. Griswold moves to 2-7 on the season. Brownlee hit three of his four 3-pointers in the first half to get the home team off to a solid start. They led 16-6 late in the first quarter and used an 11-1 close to the half to swell the margin to 20 points at 34-14.
The early stages of the 2nd half was their best stretch of the game. Pressure defense led to quick points and shots were falling both inside and out. Houser hit a pair of 3-pointers and Cook added another. They scored 23 points in the 3rd quarter to push the advantage to 57-28 heading into the 4th. Eight different players scored in the win as Landon Pelzer added 7 plus Alex Hartman, Nick Jennum, and Zane Johnson all had two points apiece.
Essex had 11 points from Tony Racine. Qwityn Vanatta scored six of his eight points in the 2nd half.
