(Des Moines) A handful of southwest Iowa counties fall under a Winter Weather Advisory from 6:00 p.m. today to 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The Advisory area includes the counties of Adair, Adams, Ringgold, Taylor, and Union.
The National Weather Service forecasts snow accumulations of up to one inch and winds gusting as high as 45 miles per hour, producing blowing snow, along with bitterly cold wind chills.
Plan on slippery road conditions, especially in rural areas north. Wind gusts from 35 to 45 mph may blow around unsecured objects. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
A Wind Advisory goes into effect for west-central and southwest Iowa from 6:00 a.m. this evening to 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Forecasters expect northwest winds of 20-30 miles with gusts up to 45 miles per hour. Areas with snow cover mays see some drifting of already fallen snow.
