(Area) Snowy Owls have been seen in Iowa.
According to the Iowa DNR at least a dozen snowy owls have appeared in the state. “It’s not highly unusual, but it is noteworthy. The Snowy Owls their breeding grounds are the arctic tundra, but they do migrate as far south as Iowa.”
Bryan Hayes says Snowy Owls started to arrive in the last few weeks. “Snowy Owls are active during the day.” Hayes says, “They are kind of a sit and wait predator often spotted sitting on a fence post ready to ambush prey. Usually mice is what they are after.”
The public is asked to leave them as they are. Do not approach owls too closely.
