(Shenandoah) Carter Pellet’s 29-points and Dayton Templeton’s 21 sparked Atlantic to a 71-52 win over Shenandoah on Tuesday night at Shenandoah.
Pellett came off the bench and scored two points in the first quarter and exploded for 15-points in the second quarter. The junior went five-for-five at the Free throw line. “My teammates got into the flow of the game, fed me the ball when I broke open in the middle of the paint, where I connected on some floaters,” said Pellett. “Coach Hall’s game plan was to crash the boards, they weren’t boxing me out, and I was able to get some put-backs.”
“Carter crashes the offensive glass very well,” said Atlantic Head Coach Derek Hall. “That was evident tonight; I think he got eight or tens points off offensive rebounds and caught the ball at the high post and cashed in. He played great tonight. And I thought Dayton Templeton played great as well. He was getting downhill pushing the ball downhill and taking in-rhythm shots.”
Shenandoah held a 10-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, led by Blake Herrold’s six points. The Trojans answered in the second quarter with 28-points; behind Pellett’s 15 and Templeton’s two-three-point buckets, the visitors built a 37-27 lead at the break.
“Our defensive intensity wasn’t there in the first half; we were getting lost on defense, over-helping, and not boxing out when we needed to,” said Coach Hall. “I got on ’em at halftime, and we played much better in the second half.”
The Trojans put up 21-points in the third quarter, to Shenandoah’s 15. Pellett led the way for the Trojans with six third-quarter points, and Blake Herold led Shenandoah with nine points. The 6’3 junior ended the night with 18-points, and Zach Foster scored 17.
“We have to be more consistent,” said Hall. “We’re good for two-quarters, maybe three, and then we go into a lull. “This is something we’re going to work on over Christmas break.”
Herold, 18, Foster, 17, and Nathan Mount, 11-points, led Shenandoah offensively. Evan Holmes contributed three points: Beau Gardner, 2, and Mitchell Jones, added one.
Pellett and Templeton combined for 50-points, Ethan Sturm and Caden Andersen scored four points, and Jackson McLaren and Jayden Proehl finished with two each.
